3. Vacuum leak in the booster system

Cracked vacuum hoses, a failed check valve, or a leaking booster diaphragm can prevent the system from reaching expected vacuum levels and trigger the code.

4. Failed brake booster assembly

An internal leak in the brake booster itself can mimic a solenoid fault and is often identified only after the solenoid and its wiring are ruled out.

5. Controlling module driver fault

In rare cases, an internal driver issue in the module that commands the solenoid can prevent proper operation, but this is uncommon and should only be considered after the solenoid, wiring, and vacuum system are eliminated.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Connect a scan tool that reads chassis codes and confirm whether C0022 is current, pending, or historic.
  2. Visually inspect the brake booster solenoid connector and harness for damage, corrosion, bent pins, or loose fit.
  3. Measure the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter and compare against the manufacturer's specification.
  4. Check vacuum supply to the brake booster with a vacuum gauge, and inspect all vacuum hoses and the check valve for leaks.
  5. Verify proper power and ground at the solenoid connector with the ignition on, using a voltmeter or test light.
  6. If all the above are good, evaluate the booster assembly itself and, only as a final step, the controlling module.
