3. Dirty, low, or degraded transmission fluid

Burnt or contaminated fluid, or a clogged solenoid inlet screen, can change hydraulic response and cause the PCM to flag the solenoid's behavior as intermittent. Many cases of P0759 are resolved by a proper fluid and filter service when no electrical fault is found.

4. Worn valve body or sticking shift valve

Mechanical wear in the valve body, including sticky spool valves or worn bores, creates pressure fluctuations that the PCM interprets as a solenoid performance issue. This is more typical on higher-mileage transmissions but is less common than solenoid or wiring faults.

5. Internal transmission damage affecting pressure or solenoid operation

Worn clutch packs, damaged seals, or debris circulating through the valve body can alter line pressure and solenoid duty cycle. This is less common but should be considered if fluid, solenoid, and wiring all test good.

6. PCM or TCM driver circuit fault

An internal failure in the transmission control module's solenoid driver is possible but rare, and is one of the least likely causes. Replacing the computer before testing the solenoid, harness, and fluid is a common and usually incorrect recommendation.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Connect a scan tool, confirm P0759 is active or stored, and review freeze-frame data to see the gear, engine load, and temperature when the fault logged.
  2. Check the transmission fluid level and condition; note any burnt smell, dark color, or metallic debris, and top off or perform a service if indicated.
  3. With the vehicle safely raised, locate Shift Solenoid B using service information and visually inspect the wiring harness and connector for chafing, tension, heat damage, oil contamination, and corroded or backed-out pins.
  4. Unplug the solenoid and measure its resistance with a multimeter, comparing to the manufacturer's specification; also check for a short to ground and to power on each terminal.
  5. Back-probe the harness side of the connector to verify the PCM/TCM is supplying correct voltage and a clean ground, and perform a wiggle test on the harness while monitoring the solenoid signal.
  6. If the solenoid, wiring, and fluid are all good, check for manufacturer technical service bulletins (TSBs) for the specific vehicle, and consider a transmission pressure test or valve body inspection to evaluate internal mechanical causes.
