The code describes what the module observed, not necessarily what is broken; the actual fault is usually in the vehicle's power supply, wiring, or grounds feeding the module rather than inside the module itself.

Symptoms

What causes it — most likely first

1. Weak or discharged battery

A battery with low state of charge or a failed cell can drop the supply voltage to the ECM/PCM below its expected threshold, triggering the code.

2. Charging system fault (alternator or voltage regulator)

An undercharging alternator or faulty regulator can leave system voltage too low at the ECM/PCM power input, especially at idle with electrical loads on.

3. Bad or corroded ground connections

Engine-to-chassis and battery ground straps that are loose, corroded, or broken create voltage drop and effectively lower the voltage seen at the module.

4. Corroded, loose, or damaged PCM power feed connector or wiring

High resistance in the fused battery feed, ignition feed, or splice to the ECM/PCM can pull input voltage below the setpoint even when the battery and alternator are healthy.

5. Excessive voltage drop in the feed circuit

Undersized or partially damaged wiring, a failing main relay, or high-resistance splices can cause the module to see low input voltage under load.

6. Internal ECM/PCM failure (least likely)

Only after the battery, charging system, grounds, wiring, and connectors have all been verified should an internal module failure be considered. The vast majority of P2507 instances are not caused by the module itself.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Verify battery state of charge with a voltmeter and perform a load test; battery voltage at rest should be roughly 12.4–12.7 V.
  2. Test the charging system output at the battery (typically 13.8–14.7 V running) and under load to confirm the alternator is not undercharging.
  3. Measure voltage directly at the ECM/PCM main power and ignition feeds with the engine running, comparing to battery voltage to check for excessive voltage drop.
  4. Inspect and test engine and chassis ground straps for tightness, corrosion, and continuity to the battery negative terminal.
  5. Inspect the ECM/PCM connector for backed-out pins, corrosion, bent terminals, water intrusion, or heat damage; repair or replace as needed.
  6. If all of the above are verified good, the ECM/PCM itself may have an internal power-input fault, though this is uncommon.
