P2725 indicates an electrical fault with the automatic transmission’s Pressure Control Solenoid “E.” The engine or transmission control module has detected an abnormal voltage, open circuit, short-to-ground, or short-to-power condition on that solenoid’s control circuit, which can prevent proper hydraulic pressure regulation.

1. Failed pressure control solenoid E

The solenoid coil can open internally, short to its case, or develop an intermittent electrical fault, making this the single most common cause of the code.

2. Wiring harness damage

Chafing, pinching, melting, or rodent damage on the solenoid control circuit can create an open, short-to-ground, or short-to-power condition.

3. Poor electrical connector or terminals

Corroded, bent, pushed-out, or loose pins at the solenoid or transmission harness connector can cause intermittent or steady high-resistance faults.

4. Internal transmission harness fault

On units where the solenoid is inside the transmission, the internal pigtail or pass-through connector can fail from heat, vibration, or fluid contamination.

5. Control module (PCM/TCM) driver fault

A failed output driver inside the PCM or TCM is possible but uncommon; it should only be considered after the solenoid, wiring, and connectors have been ruled out.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Retrieve all stored codes and freeze-frame data, then check manufacturer-specific technical service bulletins and wiring diagrams for the vehicle and transmission.
  2. Visually inspect the external wiring harness and connectors for corrosion, bent pins, oil contamination, chafing, or terminal spread.
  3. Measure the resistance of pressure control solenoid E and compare it to manufacturer specifications; replace if out of range or if the coil is open/shorted.
  4. With the circuit de-energized, perform continuity, short-to-ground, and short-to-power tests on the wiring between the solenoid and the control module.
  5. Verify the control module is sending the expected command voltage or ground pulse to the solenoid circuit under operating conditions.
  6. If all mechanical and electrical tests pass and the fault remains, evaluate the PCM/TCM output driver before condemning the module.
