U0566 — Invalid Data Received From Image Processing Sensor

Generic OBD-II · all makesNetwork / communication

U0566 means a control module has received implausible, corrupted, or out-of-range data from an image-processing sensor/module, such as a forward-facing camera used for lane-keeping or collision-avoidance systems. It is a communication/validity fault rather than a direct sensor-circuit electrical fault. The code may set when network messages are missing, garbled, or contain values the receiving module cannot validate.

Symptoms

What causes it — most likely first

1. Faulty image-processing sensor/module

The camera or image-processing module itself may have an internal fault, temperature-related failure, or calibration loss that causes it to broadcast invalid data frames.

2. Wiring or connector problems

Open circuits, shorts to power or ground, corrosion, water intrusion, or pin push-outs in the harness between the sensor and the rest of the network can corrupt or interrupt data.

3. Network communication fault

CAN/LIN bus interference, missing termination, excessive traffic, or faults from another module can garble messages and cause the receiving module to flag valid-looking data as invalid.

4. Power or ground issue to the sensor/module

Low supply voltage, a blown fuse, a poor ground, or voltage drops during cranking can make the image-processing module reset or transmit erratic data.

5. Software or calibration mismatch

Incorrect, outdated, or lost calibration/configuration after a windshield replacement, camera removal, or module swap can cause the module to output data the receiver rejects.

6. Receiving control module internal fault

Rarely, the module that reports U0566 may misinterpret otherwise valid data because of an internal processing fault; consider this only after sensor, wiring, network, and calibration checks are ruled out.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Retrieve all stored and pending DTCs and identify which module set U0566; note any related camera, network, or ADAS codes.
  2. Inspect the camera lens, mounting bracket, and harness connectors for damage, corrosion, moisture, or pin issues; check fuses and measure power/ground at the module.
  3. Evaluate network integrity by checking bus voltage and termination resistance at the image-processing module connector, and look for communication DTCs on the same bus.
  4. Verify the module calibration/configuration status and perform required camera calibration/initialization procedures if the sensor, windshield, or mounting was disturbed.
  5. If wiring, power, network, and calibration are all correct, test or substitute the image-processing module per service information, and only then assess the receiving control module.

Frequently asked

Does U0566 mean the PCM/ECM is bad?

Usually no. U0566 points to invalid data from the image-processing sensor or a network issue. Replacing the engine computer is rarely the correct fix for this code.

Can a dirty windshield cause U0566?

A dirty or obstructed lens can degrade camera performance and trigger related faults, but U0566 is specifically a data-validity or communication code. Clean the lens and retest, but expect the root cause to be wiring, calibration, or module-related.

Will the vehicle drive normally with U0566?

Engine and transmission operation are often unaffected, but advanced driver-assistance features may be disabled. The vehicle is generally drivable, though caution is warranted until the fault is repaired.

Does the camera need calibration after repairs?

Yes. Many image-processing cameras require static and/or dynamic calibration after replacement, windshield replacement, or any disturbance to mounting. Follow the manufacturer-specific procedure to avoid a recurring invalid-data fault.
