1. Blown or poor-contact fuse for the module's power D circuit

The power feed for this circuit normally originates from a fuse or fusible link. A blown, loose, or corroded fuse is the single most common reason an entire module power circuit goes open.

2. Open or damaged wire between the power source and the module

Chafing, pin-pull at a connector, rodent damage, or previous repair work can create a break in the B+ or ignition-power wire that feeds the module on circuit D.

3. Corroded or loose connector at the module or splice

Terminal fretting, water intrusion, or spread connector pins can raise resistance enough that the module sees the circuit as effectively open, even if some voltage is present.

4. Faulty power-supply relay or ignition switch output

If circuit D is switched through a relay or the ignition switch, worn relay contacts or a failing switch output can interrupt power and set this code.

5. Internal module power-circuit failure

This is uncommon. The module itself can set the code if its internal power-monitoring circuit detects an open, but the external wiring and fuse should be ruled out first.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Identify which module stored U3014 and review any related communication or power codes in adjacent modules.
  2. Locate the wiring diagram for the affected module's 'Input Power D' circuit and inspect its dedicated fuse, fusible link, and fuse-box terminals.
  3. Back-probe or safely measure voltage at the module connector on the Input Power D pin with the key in the required state; compare to battery voltage.
  4. If voltage is missing or low, perform a continuity and resistance test from the module connector back to the fuse/relay/source, including any intermediate splice or connector.
  5. Check the module ground circuit and connector terminal integrity, since a poor ground can mimic or accompany a power-circuit open.
  6. After verifying power, ground, and wiring are correct, consider module replacement or internal repair only as a last step.
