U3545 is a manufacturer-specific code indicating the powertrain control module has detected an abnormal electrical state in the high-voltage interlock circuit path “P.” The interlock is a safety loop that must remain closed and intact for the high-voltage system to operate; this code means the module sees an open, short, or incorrect resistance in that monitored segment.

1. Faulty or misaligned high-voltage interlock connector/shorting bar

The most common cause is a connector on the high-voltage loop that is not fully latched, a missing or damaged shorting bar, or a connector position assurance lock not seated, causing the interlock path to open.

2. Open, short, or chafed wiring in circuit P

The dedicated low-voltage interlock wires can break, pinch, rub through insulation, or corrode at pass-throughs, producing an open circuit or short to ground/power that the control module detects.

3. Poor terminal fit or corrosion at an interlock connector

Loose, backed-out, spread, or oxidized pins in the interlock connector create intermittent or permanent resistance changes that the module reads as a circuit fault.

4. Service plug, sealing cover, or manual service disconnect not fully seated

After service, the high-voltage service disconnect or a sealing cover may be inserted but not fully locked, breaking the interlock loop for circuit P.

5. Internal interlock fault in a high-voltage component

A battery pack, inverter, converter, compressor, or heater module can have an internal interlock switch or trace failure that opens the loop even though external wiring appears normal.

6. Control module fault

Only after the wiring, connectors, and all high-voltage components are verified should a control-module input fault be considered, because module failure is an uncommon cause of this code.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Retrieve all DTCs and note whether U3545 is current or intermittent; review service information for the exact circuit P routing and connector locations.
  2. Visually inspect every high-voltage connector in the circuit P path for proper latching, damaged locks, missing shorting bars, corrosion, and terminal condition; reseat the service plug/sealing cover if present.
  3. With the high-voltage system disabled and verified safe per manufacturer procedures, measure continuity and resistance through the interlock loop from end to end and compare to specifications.
  4. Check for shorts to ground and to battery voltage on the interlock circuit wires while gently flexing harnesses near doors, hood hinges, and routing channels to reveal intermittent faults.
  5. If wiring is intact, test or substitute suspect high-voltage components per the manufacturer’s pin-point tests before considering control-module replacement or reprogramming.
