2022 Chrysler Pacifica

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 2022 Pacifica.

Transmission Automatic 9-spd

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica is a minivan equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission, designed for family transportation with an EPA fuel economy rating of 19 city, 28 highway, and 22 combined miles per gallon, and requires 5.0 quarts of 0W-20 oil for maintenance. This model year recorded 191 owner complaints with power train issues cited as the primary concern, along with 8 recalls issued during the model year. Compared to the Pacifica's complaint history spanning 2003 through 2026, the 2022 model's 191 complaints represents a substantial improvement from the 2017 peak of 1,482 complaints, though the recall count indicates ongoing engineering challenges that owners should monitor for potential impact on long-term ownership experience.

Inspection Procedure (Lower) — tightening sequence 1 stages
1Tire and wheel assembly can now be removed. Step 3: Attach a dial indicator mount to the steering knuckle and align the plunger in the direction of the ball joint stud axis. Plunger should be touching the rear of the ball joint socket in lower control arm. Step 4: Zero dial indicator by pushing up on the lower control arm. Use care to not damage the ball joint seal boot when applying pressure to the knuckle. Step 5: Insert a pry bar between lower control arm and knuckle resting on the lower control arm from the front of vehicle. Step 6: Push up the knuckle from the lower control arm until the needle of the indicator stops moving. Step 7: Document reading on dial and replace lower ball joint if reading exceeds .039”. End play is acceptable as long as it does not exceed the .039” back to back.

Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 10,000 mi; spark plugs every 100,000 mi; coolant every 10,000 mi. The big-interval services (every 10,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 2022 Pacifica sits in the second generation's mid-late lifecycle where complaint volumes have fallen sharply from the disastrous 2017 launch (1,482 complaints) and the 2021 uptick (349) to 192, though recalls remain elevated at eight against a backdrop of declining TSBs from a 2021 peak of 672 to 538. Power Train (23), Engine (16), and Seats (12) lead the 2022 complaint categories, with six crash and two fire complaints recorded; the data does not specify root causes for these issues. Compared to the prior year, 2022 shows meaningful improvement in complaints and TSBs but a slight recall increase, while the subsequent 2023 model year drops complaints further to 137 even as recalls spike to 12. The trajectory suggests the generation's early systemic problems were largely resolved by 2020, with 2022 representing a relatively stable but not yet fully mature point in the reliability arc. For a used buyer, 2022 is a decent choice — complaints are low historically and trending down, but the eight recalls warrant verification that all campaigns were completed on any specific vehicle.
