1986 GMC Truck Jimmy 2WD

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1986 Jimmy 2WD.

The 1986 GMC Truck Jimmy 2WD is the two-wheel-drive member of GMC's Jimmy truck line, calling for 3 quarts of engine oil in viscosities spanning 20W-20, 15W-40, and 5W-30. Its reliability record is modest: three owner complaints, one recall, and Engine & Engine Cooling standing out as the top complaint area. Against the 1990–2004 model history—where complaints peaked at 620 in 1995 and bottomed at one in 2003—that 1986 tally sits near the low end, marking this year as one of the cleaner entries in the Jimmy's documented reliability span.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

Owner complaints about the 1986 GMC Truck Jimmy 2WD dominate in one area — the engine & engine cooling, 1 of 3 reports (33%), well ahead of the next concern. None of this vehicle's 1 recall campaigns target the engine & engine cooling, so those reports read as owner-reported wear-and-tear rather than an acknowledged defect. 0 of the reports describe a crash and 1 a fire — a small share of the total, but worth weighing against the engine & engine cooling pattern above. These are tallies of what owners actually reported to the federal government, not an editorial score — and higher-selling models naturally rack up more reports.
