Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

For the 1979 Honda Accord, the federal record shows two complaints regarding seat belts and one concerning vehicle speed control. Additionally, there was one reported crash complaint and zero fire complaints for this specific year. Because the provided federal record only spans from 1990 to 2022, there is no available data to compare the 1979 model to the years immediately before or after it. Consequently, the data does not specify a generational trend or how the 1979 model fits into a broader arc of reliability. Based on the minimal number of complaints and the absence of fire issues, this is a good year to buy.
