2006 Jaguar XKR

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 2006 XKR.

Body PASSENGER CARTransmission Automatic 6-spd

The 2006 Jaguar XKR is a passenger car equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, delivering EPA fuel economy of 15 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined. With 26 total owner complaints and one recall on record — tires being the top complaint area — the 2006 model year falls just below the 2005 peak of 30 complaints, which was the highest in the model's 2000–2005 tracked history, yet remains well above the 2001 low of just 2 complaints. This places the 2006 XKR near the upper end of the model's complaint spectrum, indicating that while it improves slightly on the prior year's worst showing, it still carries a relatively elevated level of owner-reported issues compared to the model's more trouble-free years.

Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 10,000 mi; spark plugs every 100,000 mi; coolant at 150,000 mi. The big-interval services (at 150,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 2006 Jaguar XKR follows a steep upward trend in reported issues across its generation, where federal complaints and technical service bulletins (TSBs) surged from a baseline of 0-2 complaints and 13 TSBs in 2000-2001 to 30 complaints and 92 TSBs in 2005. For the 2006 model specifically, the most frequently cited complaint areas are Tires (4), Vehicle Speed Control (3), and Power Train (3), alongside 5 crash complaints and zero fire complaints. This arc indicates that the 2006 model sits squarely within a period of escalating component failures, moving away from the early generation's recall-based fixes toward broader, unresolved mechanical grievances, though the data does not specify the root causes. Given its position on the upward slope of this generation's worsening reliability record, the 2006 XKR is a risky purchase and not a recommended year for buyers prioritizing long-term dependability.
