Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 7,500 mi; coolant every 30,000 mi. The big-interval services (every 30,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 1992 Mitsubishi Mirage sits at a clear low point in the early-1990s federal record, recording only 16 complaints, 1 recall, 2 investigations, and 8 TSBs, down from 41–42 complaints, 2 recalls, 4 investigations, and 11–12 TSBs in 1990–1991. This lull immediately precedes a sharp escalation in 1993, when complaints surged to 84, recalls rose to 5, and TSBs doubled to 16, beginning a run of elevated activity that persisted through 1997. Within that arc, 1992 is an outlier for its relative quiet, though the data does not specify whether this reflects lower sales volume, running changes, or reporting lag. The year also posted zero crash and zero fire complaints, with seat belts representing half of all complaints. Because it falls immediately before the 1993–1997 spike, the 1992 Mirage stands as the most favorable model year in this sequence to buy.
