1992 Mitsubishi Precis

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1992 Precis.

Body PASSENGER CARTransmission Automatic 4-spd

The 1992 Mitsubishi Precis is a passenger car fitted with a four-speed automatic transmission, and its routine-service specification calls for 3.2 quarts of engine oil in 20W-40, 10W-30, or 5W-30 API viscosities. EPA ratings for the model year are 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. Within the 19901994 complaint history, the 1992 Precis sits at the bottom of the problem curve with only one owner complaint, against a high of 15 for the 1991 model year. That makes 1992 the least-reported-problem year in the run, though the single complaint was logged under the power-train category and the model year also carries one recall.

Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter at 7,500 mi; coolant every 30,000 mi. The big-interval services (every 30,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

Looking at the federal record, complaints fell from a peak of 15 in 1991 to just 1 in 1992, then rose slightly to 3 in 1993 before dropping to zero in 1994. Recalls remained steady at one per year from 1991 through 1994, after two recalls in 1990, while investigations disappeared after 1991. Technical service bulletins were consistently four or five each year, with 1992 and 1993 showing four TSBs versus five in the surrounding years. The sole 1992 complaint was logged in the Power Train category, and there were no crash‑ or fire‑related complaints for that model year. Given the low complaint volume, absence of crash/fire issues, and only a single recall (cause unspecified), the 1992 Mitsubishi Precis appears to be a relatively reliable choice among the generation, though buyers should verify that the recall remedy has been performed.
