Body PASSENGER CARTransmission Automatic (S7)

The 2015 Nissan 370Z is a two‑door passenger car built on Nissan’s dedicated sports‑car platform and equipped with a six‑speed automatic (S7) transmission that draws 4.5 qt of 5W‑30 API‑rated oil. Its fuel economy balances performance and efficiency at 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, reflecting the model’s focus on driver‑oriented dynamics rather than outright fuel‑saving. Reliability data for this year shows a modest three owner complaints overall, with air bags identified as the most frequent issue, and the model benefits from a clean recall record. Within the broader 2009‑2019 production run, the 2015 iteration sits toward the lower end of the complaint spectrum, indicating a relatively stable point in the 370Z’s reliability history.

This engine holds 4.5 qt of 5W-30 API engine oil, DOT 3 brake fluid. Torque the oil drain plug to 25.0 ft-lbs. The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6. Note the cylinder-head bolts finish on a torque angle (torque-to-yield) — they stretch permanently and should be replaced, not reused, during any head service.

Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 5,000 mi; spark plugs at 105,000 mi; coolant at 105,000 mi. The big-interval services (at 105,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 2015 Nissan 370Z sits near the bottom of a clear downward trend in complaints across the generation, with only 3 complaints compared to 153 for the 2009 model and 110 for 2010. Recalls are absent for this year, consistent with most model years except 2011 and 2018, and the 94 technical service bulletins continue a gradual decline from earlier peaks, suggesting fewer widespread issues. The three complaint areas—air bags, exterior lighting, and power train—each register just a single report, and the data does not specify root causes. With only one crash-related complaint and no fire complaints, the 2015 model year reflects a well-sorted vehicle that avoids the higher problem rates of earlier years. This is a good year to buy, offering a mature platform with minimal reported federal concerns.
