P2729 indicates that the engine/powertrain control module has detected an abnormally low voltage or resistance condition on the electrical control circuit for automatic transmission pressure control solenoid “E.” This is an electrical circuit fault, meaning the solenoid coil, its wiring, or the control output is pulling the circuit lower than the PCM expects.

Symptoms

What causes it — most likely first

1. Failed pressure control solenoid E

The solenoid coil can develop an internal short-to-ground or open circuit, causing the control circuit voltage to read low and setting the code.

2. Wiring short to ground

The solenoid control wire may be chafed, pinched, or rubbed through, creating a path to ground before reaching the PCM.

3. Poor connector or terminal condition

Corroded, bent, loose, or oil-contaminated pins at the transmission harness connector or solenoid connector can raise resistance or create a false low-circuit reading.

4. Open or high-resistance control circuit

A broken wire, damaged splice, or failing internal transmission harness can reduce current flow and make the PCM register the circuit as low.

5. PCM control-driver failure

Rarely, the PCM’s low-side driver for the solenoid can fail and keep the circuit low; this should only be considered after the solenoid and wiring have been ruled out.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Confirm the code and record freeze-frame data, then clear it and see if it returns under the same operating conditions.
  2. Visually inspect the transmission harness, connectors, and solenoid connector for corrosion, pin damage, oil contamination, or chafed wiring.
  3. Measure the resistance of pressure control solenoid E and compare it to the manufacturer’s specification; replace or repair if out of range.
  4. Check the control circuit between the solenoid and PCM for continuity, short-to-ground, and short-to-power using a wiring diagram and multimeter.
  5. If the solenoid and all wiring test normal, perform a controlled activation test and monitor circuit response; suspect the PCM only after all electrical causes are eliminated.
